As a Colorado wedding photographer I can confidently tell you there are so many incredible professionals to choose from! It may seem like a daunting task to figure out who is the right person for you, but hopefully this list helps give you a direction on how to get started and where to go.

Step1: Know Your Budget

As it goes for most things involved in wedding planning, knowing your budget is going to be one of the most helpful things to have nailed down when you are finding your photographer. There is such a range and different packages that are involved in pricing, so it's important to figure out what's involved with each persons offerings. Keep in mind that someones work may or may not be represented in their pricing. For example, someone who is starting out might have a beautiful portfolio but is priced lower as they build their clientele. On the flip side, just because someone is priced higher doesn't mean that things like their portfolio or communication match their pricing.

Step 2: Know Your Style

Photography styles can range greatly! This in general means how the photos are edited and taken. Just because someone is in budget (whatever that might be) doesn't mean their photography style is what you are looking for. You never want to find yourself in the position where you sign a contract with a photographer, receive your photos then ask them to change their editing style. Once the photos have been taken there's also no going back to your day. Getting a sample wedding gallery is huge! You want to see how they document the day, whether it's capturing candid moments or posing to perfection.

Step 3: Start Reaching Out

Once you have the first two steps nailed down, now it's time to start contacting people. From here you can also learn a ton about your vendor. Look at their website and see if it seems organized, and helpful. Once you fill out their contact me form, how long does it take for them to get in touch? When they do, is their response helpful? Communication is huge and if you aren't on the same page, or they aren't meeting your expectations then you know they aren't the right fit.
